Patient stories - Martin
-
When we first met Martin his shoulder and wrist were so painful that he couldn’t bear for them to be touched and a nights sleep was nothing more than a distant memory.
-
Although Martin didn’t like the sling and splint, not wearing them was not an option: so severe was his pain.
-
We worked on the alignment of Martins shoulder………
-
...in different positions and postures. We worked on...
-
…his wrist…
-
...his hand.
-
…and on each individual finger to create the possibility for more selective functional movement.
-
Once the shoulder and wrist pain was gone. We used a gym ball to help promote strength and postural control of the upper limb...initially with a fisted hand...
-
....and eventually Martins wrist strength and control had improved sufficiently for him to use the ball with an open hand while exercising.
-
Of course, the lower limbs didn’t get away lightly! Co-ordination, strength and control of the lower limb, coupled with core stability work, meant that Martins walking improved. The stronger core helped with improving balance, which in turn helped the strength and control of the upper limb.
-
And now... you can see for yourself… Martin can pluck each of the guitar strings individually and get a great sound. As for the future?….his aim is to play the penny whistle again ;-)
-
Now Martin is back at work full time. He is travelling over Europe meeting clients and he assures us that his key board skills are ‘pretty much the same as before’.
